Writer's Block: Going to Extremes
gfieendish
If you were in perfect shape (not to say that you aren't), what would be your extreme sport of choice?
Right, as I am apparently in perfect shape, including no Myopia, what would be my extreme sport of choice....
Parkour could be intresting, though possible lawsuits regarding trespass, might put that to a stop...
I'm tempted to list Extreme Ironing, but that could be regarded as too flippant a reply.
I' ll  argue for something like the Triathlon...

Happy New Year, Everbody
gfieendish
Oh well, as it's the 31st December, I might as well wish everybody a Happy New 2009, as given the events of 2008, it looks like we need it....

(no subject)
gfieendish
I just want to wish everybody a Merry (Insert name of Winter festival here), & a Happy New Year...
Given the economic events of the last couple of Months, it looks like we need a better 2009...
Lets hope that we get it.

The U.S Presidental Election
gfieendish

Well, tomorrow the U.S  electorate gets to decide who the next President will be for the next couple of years...
To this British poster, the U.S election seems weird, in a way, in that the campaign seems "larger than life" (of course a more cynical person would say "more overblown"), compared to the equivalent General Election in the U.K...
But then a U.S observer would be equally amazed, that in the U.K General Election, everyone gets elected at once, not just the Prime Minister...
So to the U.S members of Livejournal, about to cast their vote tomorrow, I'll say just one thing, namely "good luck"...,

Writer's Block: The Beatles
gfieendish
In their heyday, The Beatles were the center of the pop universe. Many groups have been hailed as the next Beatles, but does pop music even have a center anymore? Who represents the core of pop music to you?
To this British poster, The Beatles was one of many groups in the 1960's, that could claim to be "The Centre of the Pop Universe", & I could argue that The Rolling Stones or The Who could equally claim this title for equallly valid reasons...
As for Pop having a centre anymore, I would argue No, as there are just too many subcategories of "pop music", for this argument to be valid... ( 1 British music magazine, in the late 1990's (Mixmag ?) argued that there were over 150 subcategories of Dance music, & published a chart showing how they evolved, but does anyone wish to listen to a hardbag gabba remix of a hip-hop track...?).
Who currently represents the "core of pop music" to me, I could argue that it is the person who "remixes" a song to make it successful, not the singer...
Maybe it's just me being cynical, but to me this is the age of the Idoru, in that the singer is now transient, & easily disposable...

Happy Birthday, Finnmajik....
May you get the birthday present you truly deserve...
Enjoy today, as you only celebrate your birthday once every year...

The U.S Presidential Election
gfieendish
I see that the 2 main candidates for said post, have been nominated by their respective political parties...
Certainly, to this amused British observer, the party confrences/conventions seem almost circuslike, in terms of their presentation style, compared to the ones held on this side of the Atlantic...
Conversely, to a U.S political observer, the equivalent events in the U.K, & their presentation, would surely be regarded as a cure for insomnia, given that our political parties hold their conferences in the stylistic equivalent of a bunker...
Needless to say, we in the U.K will be following said election with interest....

My Sister's Cat's Dead
gfieendish
My sister's pet cat died a`couple of days ago....
He was 16, & you could argue that this is a good age for a cat to live for....
However, he did'nt  have much of a life, & as such, you could argue he lived far too long, given the circumstances....
Whiskey, as he was called, was a charming, lively kitten, curious about the world, but when he grew up, my sister decided to have him neutered, as she did'nt fancy having a full grown tomcat, marking his domain with pungent smelling urine...
Something went wrong during the operation however, most probably with the anasthesia, & when he came out of the anasthetic, his entire personality had changed as a result of brain damage.
He had violent mood swings & could attack you without any warning....
When he repeatly tried to kill my sister's dog, who before the operation he got on perfectly well with, having grown up with her,
my sister had to do something...
In retrospect, my sister should have taken him to another vet's, & had him "put to sleep", there & then, but she felt it was too cruel to him.
After all, it was'nt his fault, his personality had changed, & so began his term of solitary confinement....
His entire world now consisted of a single room, it's furniture consisting of a cat bed, litter box, scratching post, food & water bowls & a table so that he could look out of the window at the world outside  ....
My sister, & her daughter tried to keep him company, playing with him for a hour each day, after changing his litter box & feeding him, but they had to be very careful, in case he suddenly decided to attack them....
He was buried on Sunday, in their back garden, his body in a cardboard box....
If there is such a concept as a "Pet heaven", then I hope he's having a whale of a time there, to compensate for the purgatory he went through, when he was alive....

Christmas & New Year greetings
gfieendish
I hope that everyone enjoyed Christmas or not, as the case would be....
Personally, I had a minor bout of food poisoning, which did tend to spoil my enjoyment of Christmas Day somewhat....
Christmas Day, in London at least started off wet, & remained so for much of the day, in short a typical British Xmas....
(Some over-optmistic people lost their bets on the possibility of a White Christmas, in the U.K this year....).
I must offer my commiserations to those in the United States, who due to bad weather, had a white but miserable Xmas, due to snow & ice cutting off electrical power.....
Anyway, I'm going to offer anyone New Years Greetings....
So Happy New Year, Everybody & Merry Xmas 2008...!!!

Illness
gfieendish
Sorry about the lack of posts, but my sister fell ill recently due to a infected insect bite & had to be hospitalised....
As a result, I did'nt feel like making or doing anything, let alone post.here.
She's out now, but then I fell ill, with a stinking cold.... (Annoying).
